Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), commonly referred to as angioplasty with stenting, is a minimally invasive procedure specifically designed to address the narrowing of coronary arteries, a condition often associated with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). During this outpatient procedure, our expert cardiologists at Cardiac and Vascular Consultants skillfully utilize advanced techniques to restore blood flow to the heart, effectively mitigating the risk of heart attacks and other cardiac complications.
Cardiac and Vascular Consultants in Florida stand out due to their commitment to patient-centered care, provided by board-certified interventional cardiologists. Our team ensures that every patient receives exceptional care with the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic technology at locations in The Villages, Lecanto, Leesburg, Wildwood, Summerfield, and Lady Lake, FL.

The PCI Procedure
The PCI procedure typically takes place in the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle. These arteries can become narrowed or blocked due to plaque buildup, reducing blood flow to the heart.
During PCI, a small balloon is inserted through a catheter, usually introduced via the femoral artery in the groin or the radial artery in the wrist, and guided to the blocked area of the coronary artery.
The balloon is inflated to widen the artery, and then a stent—a small wire mesh tube, either drug-eluting (DES) or bare-metal (BMS)—is placed at the site to hold the artery open and restore proper blood flow to the heart muscle.
